1-Open Access: Promotes free and open access to data, information and knowledge for conservation purposes. 2-Mutual Benefit: Welcomes and encourages participants both to use resources and to contribute data, information and knowledge. 3-Rights and Responsibilities: Contributors have full right to attribution for any uses of their data, information, or knowledge, and the right to ensure that the original integrity of their contribution to the Commons is preserved. Users of the Conservation Commons are expected to comply, in good faith, with terms of uses specified by contributors and in accordance with these Principles.

    Over 300 delegates from about 100 countries will gather from 5 to 9 October 2009 to participate in the 2nd Ad-hoc Intergovernmental and Multi-Stakeholder Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Over the course of five days, delegates will discuss the development of a mechanism to provide periodic, timely and policy-relevant scientific information covering the full range of biodiversity and ecosystem service issues to governments and the broader development community in support of policy development and decision-making.

    the online registration for DC-2009, the ninth International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications, to be held in Seoul, Korea, 12-16 October 2009, is now open. Early bird registration is open until 31 August. Also, the preliminary program is published with the main elements of the program for the event. A further version of the program with additional details is scheduled to be published in early August.
